ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must be an Auxiliary or Post member or the child or grandchild of a member or deceased member of T.H.B. Post or Unit #187. Applicant may need to provide proof of eligibility.

Applicant must be enrolled at an accredited college or university as a full time student. The applicant must attend the school of their choice in the year that they applied for the scholarship. If for some reason the applicant does not complete the entire year, the Auxiliary will expect to be reimbursed for the amount of unused scholarship.

Any scholarship from the Auxiliary will not conflict with any other scholarship the student may receive.

Scholarship money is designated  for tuition, lab fees, room and board, and any other bills pertaining to school programs. Scholarship money is paid directly to the school purser or financial aid depatment.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

INCOMPLETE AND LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

The American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Committee will be the sole judge as to the selection of the scholarship recipient and amount of award. The committee will consider the applicant’s financial need, other scholarship funding, and essay. Decisions are final.

A brief typed essay on a separate sheet of paper. This essay will be a major part of the selection process. Use this essay to introduce yourself to the committee. Include comments that you feel may be of interest to the scholarship committee including your career plans, special family situations, and unusual family expenses. Also describe your commitment to your goals and how this scholarship will help you attain these goals.

A current high school transcript is required, or current college grades.

All information provided is kept strictly confidential and used only to determine the applicant’s eligibility for scholarship awards during the reviewing process.

Award recipients will receive notification of award in writing.
